When working with clients an understanding of interior design is complementary to curtain making and soft furnishings. The course will be based around a residential project which will take you through the development stages of an interior design scheme from initial brief to final presentation and implementing the design on site. Design and drawing skills are not required. On completion of this course students will be awarded an Accredited Certificate. Victoria Hammond Academy is accredited by AIM Awards, which is an approved British Awarding Body, regulated by Ofqual. 

 

You can either make payment in full, or deposit payment. A deposit payment is required to secure your place on a course. Balance payment is then due to be settled at least 14 days prior to the course start date. It is possible to decide attendance dates at a later time subject to availability on scheduled courses running – select from the option below ‘dates to be decided’.

 

All course fees are inclusive of specialist machinery/products, designer fabrics, comprehensive step-by-step manual and refreshments. Bovingdon village is within walking distance and has a selection of food stores. You are also welcome to bring a packed lunch. Free parking on site at Bury Farm.

 

Courses run from 9:30am to 5pm. Tea/coffee served at 9:15am. We are on-site from 9am.

COURSE PROGRAMME

INTRODUCTION TO INTERIOR DESIGN

Trainer: Victoria Hammond & Natalie Weavers

 

The course will be based around a residential project which will take you through the development stages of an interior design scheme from initial brief to final presentation and implementing the design on site.

  • Comprehensive discussion and display of interior design schemes using curtain making, soft and hard furnishings.
  • Students will be provided with a room design brief and will design and make a range of moodboards choosing from a wide range of recommended fabric and interior design suppliers. There will be a demonstration on drawing techniques.
  • Advise on client liaison, meeting with a client at their home and presentation of interior design moodboards.
  • Comprehensive advise on costing for window dressings and hard and soft furnishings when running a business, and preparation of Estimate of Costs.
  • Students will learn how to read interior plans, and how to liaise/work with contractors on site and putting the right team of people together.
  • Students will learn how to scale a plan or elevation and create a floor plan that works both creatively and practically.
  • Discussion/demonstration on 2D space planning, flow and human ergonomics.
